Creating Story Ideas With PlotMonkey™ Software.

What is PlotMonkey™?

PlotMonkey™ is the name of a software program that you can use to generate story ideas and brainstorm.

It's based on the old saying, "An unlimited number of monkeys and an unlimited number of typewriters will eventually produce King Lear." PlotMonkey™ is your unlimited supply of monkeys, and your computer is the unlimited supply of typewriters.

Using PlotMonkey™

This is PlotMonkey™ working at his trusty old typewriter. He doesn't use a computer.

Notice the pile of bananas in the lower left corner. When you click on the bananas, PlotMonkey™ gives you a Who, What, Why, When, Where, and How log line.

Using the control panel to crate a story idea.

When you click on the banana, the monkey will give you his own story idea. Some ideas are good, some are nutty, some are weird, and are original, and will give you ideas. But... you are in control of the monkey.
PlotMonkey™ never repeats the same idea! It's possible, but the odds are about the same as you winning the lottery.

Notice the little check box by each of the story elements. By removing the check mark, you exclude that element from the story idea that PlotMonkey™ will give you. For example, if you click all of the check boxes but "Who." and then click on the banana, the monkey will only give you a suggestion of who should be in your story. If you like it, click on the green dot to the right of the "who" box. This will make your selection part of the next idea. Now unclick the "What" box to find out what your character will do. Follow the same procedure until you have a story idea that you like.
The green dots let you lock in a story element.
The ! sign lets you enter your own story element on the run.
The letter Q gives you a quote from a famous writer, director, or studio big shot. You can add your own quotes using a text editor
You can turn the typing sound on or off by clicking on the note icon.
Yyou can change the text color by clicking on the paint cup and letter a..

Story Elements

Most stories plots are made up of the same element: Who, What, Why, When, Where, and How. Who did it? What did they do? Why did they do it? When did they do it? Where did they do it? How did they do it?
